• Robbery is the felonious or unlawful taking of personal property in the possession of another, from his person or immediate presence, by violence, intimidation, force, fear, or the threat of bodily harm. Syn. forcible stealing. hold-up. stick-up (slg.).
Robbery is a form of assault, rather that an aggravated form of theft. The element which distinguishes theft from robbery is the use of violence or fear. Robo is a broader concept than robbery since it applies to cases where the unlawful taking also takes place by manipulating or damaging property (theft of electricity for example).
